I dedicate this is to my last drop of hope
before I too become hopeless
before I too give into the wave of desperation that surrounds me
before I too sell my dreams, my virtue, my faith and my life
this is to my last drop of hope
before I too pawn in what’s left of me just to “comfort” my solitude
before I too look into unknown eyes
and with tears strolling by claim them as mine
this is to you
the one that still hasn’t escaped
the one that clings to me like a newborn to breasts
please don’t you lay to rest
cause today you’re everything that’s left
rub your essence on my skin
cause I feel like I’ve been washed too many times
and now there’s a faded gray that’s replaced my sunkissed glow
now there’s a drained look to my face
and please don’t tell me is too late
please don’t let me succumb to childish games
cause I have dreams you see
and I still carry a little bit of faith in a bottle wrapped in lace
this is to you and for you
not just another poem
or a group of words that have no meaning
that have no substance
this is a plea
to please forgive me
for my constant mistakes
of how I’ve deposited you on strangers
of how I’ve mistreated you
minimizing your worth
think about the years you’ve been by my side
encouraging, being my guide
do you not remember all the sunsets?
all the rises of the sun?
all the nights we swept away under my pillow?
have you forgotten the way you’ve illuminated my life?
must I go further into the past to remind you of our past??
please have compassion for my soul
for it wishes you not to go
this is for you my last drop of hope
please don’t make me give you away
to whoever comes in my way
just to fill my void
just to heal the pain
