A threatless bum chewing gum
rummages thru your trash
his cracked crutches take him to the ally
of excessive smak
and it is plain to see his missing teeth
when he slips a smile into his laugh

How he survives and the reason why
sends shivers and shakes up and down the spine

He is a bum.
An unfortunate one.
With nothing to love.
With all the cuts on his skin.
And the scars in his heart.

He is just like you and I
