From a distance
I knew him not
for his soul was within
and the outer exterior
of this young man
was not that of my friend
from a distance
he was but a stranger
and once we spoke
and we broke the ice
my heart told me
he was of no danger
from a distance he was unique
he had a different look about him
but as I got to know him
I realized there was more
to him than meets the eye
and this brother
had it all together
even though from a distance
he would not have ever
I kid you not caught my eye
from a distance he seemed strange
the way he dressed
the hair on his face
yet when he smile
I kinda knew
there was something beautiful
that was trying to shine through
and I am so glad
the opportunity came
where we exchanged
and that moment
it all seemed clear
a soul mate
is not always
what you desire
a soulmate is not what you make
a soulmate may not appear
as the one you dream of
as the one you long for
as the one you desire most
yet a soul mate
is the one that will keep you smiling
is the one that understands
is the one that chases your clouds away
is the one who has our best interest at hand
is the one who would fight battles for you
is the one who will never leave you
is the one created for you
and the one who would be a great companion for you
that is if you could only get past
the outer exterior
and allow yourself to see
good things come in small packages
and although it may not appear
in the best dressed package
it seems quite strange
the one that you woulda coulda or mighta
let get away
is actually the very best kept secret
you could ever care to find
for when you find your soul mate
you might agree
there is no place in life
you would rather be
than in their company
til the end of time.
