An Arsonist’s Remorse

I know what breaks a Greek plate
And the intent of a ceramic artist
The uncertainty of a kiln
And variables of responsibility
Within accidents going places
To happen and the ones we preserve
In jars for an occasion to spill
And break and slip like the coaxing sparkle
Of a drying marble floor

Masters of Circumstance never test fire
Clip yellow-leafed plants cradled legs in hands
Examining dead the skin mix with sand.

The intellect grows a peach a bit
Brain and dripping sweet a chin mimicking
The edge of what a human can face
A volcano inverted as ash
Before lava or blood before basalt

We suspend our bodies in burlap decisions
And dangle ripe in the trees burning
To bust open our guts to become spectral
Activity and savorily spent

I could have left a couple chipped
Dishes or a few finger dents
In the frosting or one yellowing plant
But at the pavers’ discretion
Without the courtesy of cones
We let the jackhammers fraction
Our tameless terrain

I know the remorse of an arsonist
And the quiet after the crackle
The twisted fate of a toaster taken up in steely flames
I know the accident of throwing inextinguishable matches
Of lovers and time and accidents
Like tricky birthday candles jinxing a wish.

Coming Back (Part Two)

My record’s bad, my love is sad
I long for you, I’m coming back

Coming back, coming back
Don’t you cry babe, I’m coming back

They locked me up for getting mad
So don’t you cry girl, I’m coming back

Coming back, coming back
Don’t you cry babe, I’m coming back

Girl, I’ll never lie as long as you’ll take me back
So don’t you cry my pet, I’m coming back

Hey babe, do you want me back
I need to know the real fact
Let me take you by the hand
Take you with me to see the band

(Bass solo)

Coming back, coming back
Don’t you cry babe, I’m coming back

My record’s bad, my love is mad
I long for you, I’m coming back
I believe you’ve been messing with a number of men
Don’t expect to see them again ’cause I’m coming back

Coming back, coming back, coming back

Too Close

I saw you holding him too close, too close
You had me believing you almost, almost

I’m not looking back on the shadows of the past
But sometimes, I’ll think of you and the love that was too last

Step back, won’t you please your too close
You were my first love and now your back, back again
In the beginning we were shining that made us close
But after a while I could see the rain and the end

I’m not going to follow you through the shadows of the past
I like it the way it is not too close not too fast

Sunday Driver (Part Two)

It doesn’t matter if the forecast is blue
Especially if his wheels are stuck in voodoo
Spinning around until he’s out of fuel

Never seems like the sun will ever shine
While he drives down the passing lane
Leaving it all beyond the beyond
Mentally stuck in the turn lane

May never turn back home again
He doesn’t care (Sunday Driver)
He’s taking a ride lost behind the wheel
Driving for miles and miles

He never smiles as he passes you by
It doesn’t matter if there’s nothing for him to do
He never minds flying too high
It doesn’t matter to him coo coo kachoo

Meth

Sometimes you just can’t be still
and freeze the endless movement of your body parts.
Especially your mouth that’s been running amok
for six hours consecutively without a break.
I know people are watching me at work, in public
and even family when I get a chance to pull away to visit.
The sadness in their eyes tells the story of the death
and loss of a loving son that was on his way to bigger things.

Now darkness invades the best of me.
I roam through life passing my time with no true experience.
I’ve even consciously turned my back to my Master who gives love.
I’ve never needed to breath more than I do now.

This was written during the end of summer 2005 at work high on junk. It was the last thing I ever wrote high on drugs. Shortly after this written statement I found myself closer to recovery. I had been up for five days then fell out for a few hours. When I awoke, I didn’t know if it was day or night. I began sobbing for hours nonstop and I couldn’t stop it. I’m sure the neighbors heard me as I made a chicken sandwich in my kitchen. It was as if I was standing outside of my body observing this event within a dream. I went back to sleep for a few more hour. This time when I woke up, I felt fine and thought what a bad dream. I went to my kitchen and found the mess I made. That was the last day I used streets drugs to get high.

I’m Leaving (Part Two)

You can’t tell me what to do
You know its just not like you
You phone me up you feel small
You cry to me like rainfall

Sometimes I just want to get away from your face and start new

Smile for me and let go
Fill this empty place of soul
Don’t lock me up deep inside
You held my heart, but it died

Each time I see you I want to run and hide to stay away

Leaving is hard, but I’ll survive
I won’t look back I must fly
Don’t cry to me deep inside
You held my love, but it died

Nice to know you, but I must be on my way to keep me sane

Amazing Sojourn

(A Slice of Life Shorts)

A Slice:
I hear that steam train
Coming down the rails
Its not the noise that’s moving
The mighty machine
Its not even the man inside
The monster.

A Slice:
Eating inside pocket size diners
Operating in coffee shop housing
Spending more in restaurants routinely
Then going home to the kitchen counter.

A Slice:
Time will tell
When there’s nothing left to see
And some will have hell
When other’s problems set them free

Mountains have been climbed
One rock at a time
You can’t always see the top
But the bottom is always clear

I move along
And sometimes it seems
I crawl.

A Slice:
I don’t belong here
Can’t you see by now
I’ve come a long way
And I’m staying right here

Be here now
Be right here
No way else to be
No where else to be
But here with YOU.

A Slice:
Everyone must come to an end
Pressure builds, the body declines again
Streams of light flow in a place of love
True love can overcome any obstacles
Pledging our lives and our hearts to one another
True everlasting friendship impacts our life.

We’ll Be Fine

I want to share my life with you
Explore the wonders of something true

There may be rough days down the road ahead
But with you by my side I know that we’ll be fine

I want to spend my time with you
Discover a world we never knew

We can embrace these crazy times
Because our love is strong I know that we’ll be fine

I feel like a child of love

Nothing will ever come between us
We can be happy and victorious
The evil-minded are on the run
And we’re still standing here as one

There may be rough days down the road ahead
But with you by my side I know that we’ll be fine

I feel like a child of God

I think this is my best song from “Transcendence” and was written two weeks after 9/11. We added a cello and it sounds beautiful.

Never Move At All

There is nothing left to do
When the bottom drops out from you
There is nothing more to say
Just try again someday (you can try again someday)

Easy said when you’re not the one down
But I’ve been there and I’m still kicking around

I don’t know what you’re thinking
Your mind is running like a steam engine
You keep on rolling forever
And never move at all (never move at all)

When your light grows dim and you feel troubles come
Remember this when you feel worrisome

We all have something to give
We all have something to give

Much At Stake

There was a time I seemed so proud
Never paid attention to that dark thundercloud
Then one day it began to pour
Never let up and never worked out
So I went to my ma and said look at me now
Where have we been and who are my true friends
Seems like nobody cares and secrets are concealed
Life goes on for those who dare

Can’t you see I’m falling apart day by day
Scrounging around for something to eat and my body won’t sleep
There’s much at stake with fire in the sky and in this lonely guy

I’m getting cold won’t you be my blanket
I’m so alone that sometimes I just forget

Can’t you see I’m falling apart day by day
Scrounging around for something to eat and my body won’t sleep
There’s much at stake with fire in the sky and in this lonely guy

There was a time I seemed so proud
Never paid attention to that dark thundercloud

This was written after I finished writing my concept album. At this point, I almost gave up regarding on recording the project because I would listen to everyone around me that didn’t and wouldn’t try to understand you can rise above hope. I will never listen to people that think inside a box. I almost took my life when I thought friends and family knew best. I’m not mad at them because they don’t know sh*t and I’m still living.
