Hugo A. Vargas Jr is a Fall 2007 graduate from Whitman College, he has a BA in Gender Studies. His interested in the field is multifaceted but his main focus has been the genealogy of gender norms as power relations. His senior thesis was an exploration of the theme of eros or love in Plato's Symposium through the lens of the Greek pederastic relationship. As it comes through in the poetry, he has a deep seeded interest in the notion of love.

::: Her even body still her face divine :::

Defined in contemplation of a godly
sleep.

A sleep that only snow can begin to explain
in plain metaphoric screams her dreams invaded
occupied by shattering manhood’s of a father on vacation.

She awakened to an epic pressing that marked
her in objective time.

Awake

Awake to a perpetual night a night that won’t rise and shine
Eyes that cannot see with the blind trust
they used to.
