Hugo A. Vargas Jr is a Fall 2007 graduate from Whitman College, he has a BA in Gender Studies. His interested in the field is multifaceted but his main focus has been the genealogy of gender norms as power relations. His senior thesis was an exploration of the theme of eros or love in Plato's Symposium through the lens of the Greek pederastic relationship. As it comes through in the poetry, he has a deep seeded interest in the notion of love.

Broken glass reflects her shattered memories
time denies her a place in nouns and predicates
that cannot express the kaleidoscopic realism
of life in listless verses of lurking pasts
dreams and shadows of an appetite for destruction
shattered sentences life in sentences.

Life sentenced to stand in spite of destiny
stand inspired

By glasses of grammar that
encircle her domain.

contain her insides
contain her outsides
contain her shattered self.
