the cold has arrived in subtle regallia
dressed in dead leaves and trash
it came in from the west
in a slow unfolding procession
of dirty grey rolling clouds
whistling long refrains of nature's blues
in lamentation of the land
and evoking the inspired forest
to blush in hues
of golden speckled rust
moved by such eternal sorrow
to bend their withered hands
and shed their newest garb
in ritual of appreciation
the dance of life
