In spite of his education,
and voracious appetite to read,
they said he’ll never amount
to more than dung in a heap.
They said he stumbles drunk
with books and bottles on the streets.
Loosely chasing after skirts,
using fine words with girls on the cheap.
And, there is only one Bukowski.
Only room for one broken bum.
And so he’ll never amount
to more than his kin living in slums.
But what they didn’t realize was
the power of true love.
